West Indies call up Akeem Jordan due to hamstring injury to Jeremiah Lewis

The West Indies Cricket Board has announced that Barbadian bowler Akeem Jordan will replace fast bowler Jeremiah Louis in its 15-man squad for the third and final Test against England.

Lewis missed the match due to a hamstring injury he sustained in the second Test match at Trent Bridge.

Lewis, 28, was initially included in the squad following the injury to experienced Kemar Roach. The fast bowler from St Kitts and Nevis, who has taken 151 first-class wickets, had hoped to make his Test debut in this series. However, a press release issued by Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Wednesday confirmed that Lewis will miss the match but remains in the squad for further treatment.

The West Indies suffered a crushing defeat in their first Test match at home, losing by 114 runs. Lost the second Test by 241 runs At Trent Bridge, despite a more competitive performance, Lewis made a contribution as a substitute fielder, taking a catch to remove England captain Ben Stokes on the first day of the second Test.

The 29-year-old Jordan is not new to the West Indies, having played in two one-day internationals against the UAE in June 2023. He made his international debut in Sharjah, taking one for 36. Jordan was also part of the squad for the two-Test series in Australia earlier this year, but did not play.

A CWI press release stated: “Jordan is already in the UK and has joined the team, training on July 24. “Jordan showed his potential by taking 67 wickets in 19 first-class matches and a career-best of 44 wickets by taking five wickets. He also took eight wickets in four matches for Barbados in this year’s West Indies Regional Four-Day Championship.

The third Test begins at 6am on Friday at Edgbaston in Birmingham, with Jordan hoping to make his Test debut for the West Indies.
