Ryan Reynolds may be from Vancouver, but the “Deadpool vs. Wolverine” star has made no secret of his love for Toronto.
“OMG I miss Toronto so much. What a great place,” the movie star wrote in an Instagram post after heading to the city on Wednesday for the Canadian premiere of the summer blockbuster.
Reynolds, along with Australian co-star Hugh Jackman and Montreal director Shawn Levy, has been touring the world to promote the latest installment in the Deadpool franchise, and the 47-year-old actor admitted the tour has left him exhausted.
“The endless #DeadpoolAndWolverine global tour isn’t always smooth sailing. Nothing to complain about!!! But sometimes you show up out there and it feels like your brain has been cut off by a claw hammer… You desperately search for the gas but all you can find is brake and reverse. I’m thankful that Toronto put a paddle on my chest this morning,” Reynolds wrote.
“You know you have a job to do. The reporters you meet with have a job to do, too. It was a simple but important deal and I wanted to get it done. But I didn’t stand up for Toronto. Today, Toronto stood up,” he continued, shouting out Tyrone Edwards of ETalk, He hosted a movie star special The show aired on Wednesday night. Reynolds also expressed love for ETalk’s Lenny Louie and Social’s Jessica Allen.
In an exclusive interview with ETalk on Tuesday, Jackman reflected on his love story with Toronto, recalling when he came to the city to audition for the role of Wolverine in the 2000 box office hit “X-Men.”

“I’m going to tell you a true story. We were here this morning. I was driving down that highway. What highway is that? (Someone in the audience yells, ‘Gardner’) And there’s flowers with words on the left. And I was looking at it and it suddenly occurred to me that I came to Toronto in October of 1999 to audition for the role of Wolverine, which was 25 years ago,” Jackman said.
Aside from the stars’ love for Toronto, Reynolds, who plays the foul-mouthed superhero for the third time in the latest film in the franchise, explained that “Deadpool and Wolverine” have two other lesser-known Canadian connections.
“We also have two Canadian-born superheroes. You know, that’s kind of crazy,” he said. Wolverine is from Alberta, while Deadpool is from an “undisclosed location” in Canada, according to Marvel.
During the interview, Reynolds was also asked about his friendship with Jackman, and he described their relationship as “two old ladies watching the sunset.”
“The key to any friendship or partnership, whether it’s friends, spouses or whatever, is having each other’s backs,” the actor said.
Deadpool vs. Wolverine is out on Friday.
