Emilio Nsue and the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation (Feguifut) have both lodged separate appeals against FIFA’s May ruling that the 34-year-old had never been eligible to play for the African nation.

“Our player and captain, Emilio Nsue, is Equatorial Guinean himself,” Venancio Tomas Ndong Micha, president of the Fergifoot Football Club, told BBC Sport Africa.
“The federation and the people don’t understand why we have to go through this.
“His family is in Equatorial Guinea, his father’s country, and we think our appeal will be successful. I hope FIFA will deliver justice.”
FIFA said in its ruling “very satisfied”, External Nsueh was ineligible for “several” international matches but specifically adjudged Namibia and Liberia to win by a technical score of 3-0.
In the World Cup qualifiers last November, both teams lost 0-1, with Nsue scoring the winning goal each time.
Nsue is the all-time leading scorer for the Equatorial Guinea national team with 22 goals. He was ruled ineligible by FIFA in 2013 after making two appearances for the African nation. After playing for Spain at youth level, Nsue wanted a switch to the national team.
FIFA ruled that he did not have Equatorial Guinea citizenship when he made his Spain debut in 2005, which was a technical requirement at the time, and therefore did not approve his change of nationality.
Despite this, the Fergie team called him up again in late 2013 and since then, Nsue has become a regular in the team, playing in the 2018, 2022 and now 2026 World Cup qualifiers, as well as three Nations Cups.
