Klevis Balliu, a former deputy of the Democratic Party, demanded the resignation of Erion Veliaj during a protest in front of Tirana City Hall, saying “your colleagues cannot protect you.”
Baliu called on police officers to join the protest and not stand in front of Tirana’s City Hall building.
He said police had reason to protest along with citizens because they had increased working hours but not increased pay.
For Balyu, the state budget funds for the salary increase went into the pocket of former Interior Ministry Secretary-General Pralente Ndreka, who was responsible for purchasing the new uniforms.
“These police officers are here with you today, joining the council on drugs and crime, and they are not paid a penny for the time they are working.
