“Fake Filipinos”
Guo’s nationality has been a focus of the Senate investigation at a time when relations between Manila and Beijing have deteriorated over the South China Sea dispute.
The National Bureau of Investigation said in its investigation that Guo Wengui’s fingerprints matched those of a Chinese citizen who and her Chinese mother were both granted special investor residence visas.
“This confirms what I have always suspected. Mayor Alice is a fake Filipino,” Hontiveros said in a statement.
“She is a Chinese national who masqueraded as a Filipino citizen in order to assist POGOs (online gambling operations) in committing crimes.”
Authorities have frozen the assets of Guo and others linked to the scam center, including 90 bank accounts, real estate, luxury vehicles and a helicopter.
Casio was concerned that Ms. Guo might try to evade arrest by changing her appearance in a secret hospital set up by the scam center to treat its staff.
Recently, police raided an illegal medical facility and found equipment used for cosmetic surgery.
“You go in as one person, and come out as a new person,” Casio said.
“This operation is so complicated.”
