The Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) has been fined a total of 50 million HUF by UEFA for various violations committed by fans during the European Championship. MLSZ website’s report on Wednesday recalled that UEFA fined Hungarian fans about 38 million HUF in three group matches for unsportsmanlike behavior – throwing objects (usually glasses) at the pitch, using fireworks, pyrotechnic devices and sending provocative messages – which are not suitable for a sporting event.
At the same time, UEFA also informed MLSZ that it had filed a lawsuit against the Hungarian Football Association due to racist remarks made by Hungarian fans.
In the latter case, the UEFA Disciplinary Committee received a decision on Wednesday, according to which it considered that it had been proved during disciplinary proceedings that some Hungarian fans displayed unsportsmanlike behavior during the matches against Germany and Scotland when they chanted “Gypsies” on several occasions.
As a sanction for racist remarks, UEFA will not allow the sale of tickets to Hungarian fans at the upcoming away games of the Hungarian national team, but will suspend the implementation of the penalty for a two-year trial period. In addition, the decision also requires the Hungarian association to pay a fine of 12 million forints.
