Washington – The US president will address the nation on Wednesday, saying he is “passing the baton to a new generation” while publicly explaining for the first time his decision to end his re-election campaign in the November election.

“I have decided the best way to move forward is to pass the baton to a new generation. That is the best way to unite our country,” the president will say in the Oval Office, according to excerpts released by the White House.

According to the excerpts, Biden planned to make the decision to end his reelection campaign in an attempt to “defend democracy,” an idea that marked his desire to run in the 2020 election and has dominated his entire term.
