Phnom Penh: The Cambodia Clean Water Forum was held on July 24, 2024, with a focus on strengthening collaboration between the state, the private sector and financial institutions to improve access to clean water across the country. The forum, chaired by the Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, His Excellency Hem Vandy, brought together more than 500 stakeholders to discuss the implementation of the Water Management Law and compliance with clean water service licenses. His Excellency Hem Vandy said the state provides extensive support to the private sector to provide clean water services to people across the country. He stressed the importance of a reliable water supply to meet daily needs, support public health, and attract investment and industrial development. The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation is currently assessing the status of water supply across the country and working with financial institutions to increase financing priorities for the sector. Cambodia Small and Medium Enterprise Bank reported that the bank has identified the water sector as a priority area for financing and has approved approximately US$14 million in low-interest loans to private water operators.
