July 23, 2024 (Juba) – South Sudanese President Salva Kiir on Monday fired his Chief Office Administrator, Yael Lor Kull, and replaced him with Daniel Madit Malik.
Kiir said in a decree announced on national television: (St. Paul’s Bay Commercial Bank)did not give a reason for removing Kuehl, who had held the position since December 2023.
Kuehl, a former executive director of the president’s office, was one of the top officials accused of forging documents and stealing funds. He was convicted but pardoned.
Meanwhile, the new chief administrative officer of Kiir’s office is a political rival of the head of the National Security Agency, General Akol Kuk.
However, he was one of the strongest allies of General Gregory Vasily, deputy director of the External Directorate of State Service and a relative of Kiel’s in-law.
Analysts see the latest appointments as an attempt by Kiir to surround himself with people who are friendlier to the first family but who do not have ambitions for power.
