On the first morning of June, a woman reported a man she was having an affair with for violence at his home in Nuuli.
(Because the woman involved is a daughter, the names of the people involved are not disclosed.
The woman asked that the man be removed from her home because she was concerned that he might attack her.
There was a possible link between the police and the accused, their family members in Nuuli, the police disclosed the report when the accused’s ancestors reached their office.
Police witnessed the man having scars on his face. When asked why he had facial injuries, the man said he was injured while working on the farm that morning.
The accused also claimed that he went to the woman’s house to take her wallet and bank card. The police also said that although the relationship between the accused and the woman in question had not ended, the accused still had a gold bracelet (14kt) belonging to the woman. The accused wanted to exchange the bracelet and wallet.
The defendant explained that he walked to meet the woman’s car, but he saw the car reverse and drive away again. The man denied trying to stop the woman’s car.
Police told the suspect his wallet would be returned and advised him not to bother the victim in the future.
The police had the opportunity to interview the victim at the Tafuna Police Station where she explained that one of her belongings was stolen from her home on the same day which led to the above incidents as well as other incidents that occurred between them and the accused.
The victim explained that she realized her belongings had been stolen from her home when she returned from vacation with her brother.
The woman explained that her relationship with the defendant ended two weeks before the incident. On June 1, when he arrived home, he saw the defendant standing in front of his house and said he turned around and left because he was worried that he would be beaten.
The woman said this was not the first time the defendant had stalked her and she expressed her concern when he approached and tried to open her car door.
According to police records, the defendant got into the car and cursed the woman while his neighbors watched.
The woman also mentioned that she called the police the same day for help in getting the accused removed from her home. When the woman heard that the accused was taken from her home, she returned home and found that someone had stolen her property from her home.
The woman said her phone charger and passport were missing from the kitchen counter and when she entered her daughter’s room she saw holes in the wall.
There was also a stick that would have prevented the sliding window from being opened easily, but it had been removed. He saw that the “screen” and the window were open.
As she continued to investigate, the woman also discovered that many of her personal belongings were missing, including her watch in the bathroom, and she also saw blood in the bathroom sink, which looked like someone had taken a shower.
The woman explained that she remembered an incident that occurred early in the morning on the first day when she stopped at a store and saw the defendant jump out of a car. So he reversed his car to leave, however, he saw the car follow where the defendant jumped.
The woman said she felt scared and suspicious when the car following her stopped on the side of the road and blocked her way, but the defendant got out of the car and walked to his car, forcing the passenger door open. The defendant then took out his mobile phone and yelled at her.
Later, the woman’s mobile phone was recovered from the accused.
Based on the woman’s report, the police arrested the suspect from her family and questioned him.
As she explained to the police, the woman’s property was also found in the defendant’s backpack. In addition, the defendant’s wallet was found in his backpack, but he told the police that the wallet was taken by the victim.
The accused corroborated the woman’s testimony and based on the incident that occurred on the road, he said that he took the affected woman’s mobile phone because he felt distressed when he saw another man in the affected woman’s car.
The defendant also testified that he stopped the woman’s car by jumping on top of it, but he denied the allegation of stealing her property.
According to police records, the total value of the stolen property was $720.
The man was charged with three counts:
Count 1: Robbery in the Second Degree – a Class “C” felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than seven (7) years, or a fine not more than $5,000; or both.
Count 2: Theft – a Class “C” felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than seven (7) years, or a fine not more than $5,000; or both.
Count 3: Inciting a disorderly conduct in a public place – a Class “B” misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment for not more than six (6) months, or a fine of $500; or both.
The defendant will be released on $3,000 bail while awaiting trial.
