The Prešeren Theatre and its partners received funding from the European Small Language Theatre Project.
KRANJ – The Small European Language Theatre Project, led by the Kranj Prešeren Theatre in cooperation with eight partners and four associate members, has been included in the European Commission’s funding application for the period 2024-2026 following a successful application.
The international initiative was first presented at the 53rd Slovenian Theatre Week in Kranj, where together with key relevant stakeholders from smaller language regions, a strategy for the promotion, exchange, support and development of local playwrights was developed based on common challenges.
The project, with a total value of 1.7 million euros, will see the creation, staging, hosting and translation of plays in Basque, Catalan, Albanian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Estonian, Maltese and, of course, Slovene. The project will see the translation of 30 fresh plays, more than 20 workshops and conferences, two international and showcase festivals, books and online publications, and the creation of a new network of partners for co-performances of European minority language playwrights in European and international theatre spaces.
As they added at the Prešeren Theatre, the project will begin in the autumn and will last until the end of the 2025/26 season.
