The commission said the comments were intended to tarnish Mr Lefima’s reputation.

Two weeks ago, a leaked WhatsApp voice clip revealed Mr Monokoane’s displeasure at Mr Lephema’s alleged unethical behaviour, accusing him of trying to overthrow Mr Matekane and seize the party’s leadership. In the clip, Mr Monokoane urgedgentlemenMatekane berated Mr Lefima before he “destroyed” the party.

Mr Monokoane said: “Some of the people you were walking with, especially this man called Lebona, did not jointhisRFP supports you. He wants to overthrow you and become the leader. Lebona does not love you; he gives you a fake smile. If you do not recognize his hypocrisy and bullying in the party, we will lose this party.”

In addition, a Teyateyaneng youth named Makhabane accused Mr. Lephema ofRequest for Proposaland acted as a dictator, instructing others to vote for his preferred candidate. Mahabane claimed that despite Lefima’s promise to help, he did not support the Youth League’s campaign.

“When I decided to contest the Youth League election, I approached Mr Lephema hoping that he would sponsor my campaign and he also promised to help me with radio campaigns but he never did. He had his own team called ‘Team Lebona’ whose members were not from Teyateyaneng.

We did a lot of campaigning for him (Lephema) during the 2022 elections, but he did not support me because I was runningyessouthLiftAt the election, he ordered me to step down and vote for his preferred candidate. I refused and participated in the election, so I only got three votes.

“In a democracy, you don’t order or threaten others to withdraw from the election and vote for your favorite puppet. This is not democracy, it is dictatorship. This Lebona team is a group of people who want Mr. Lefima to be the deputy leader and be in charge of all party structures. The Women’s League election has been poisoned by the same. It is wrong for lawmakers to influence elections.yessouthLiftAlliance elections.

“I don’t like cheap politics. We will resolve this with votes. We are heading for division; it’s sad because we tried to campaign for him,” Makhabane said.

TyesConstituencyCommitteecondemnAttempted defamationagainst Mr Lefima, who is also the minister of local government, chieftaincy, interior and police.

They called on the National Election Commission to address the issue, stressing that the attack had caused confusion and division within the party.

“As Teyateyaneng constituency consists of four councils, we are concerned about the unfortunate act of tarnishing the name of our legislator.

“We have been ignoring these actions for a long time, but during the RFP Youth League election meeting on June 29, 2024, things took a new turn when the Peka legislator made a clip on social media, accusing our legislators without any basis. Until today, we are still waiting for the NEC to take disciplinary measures on the matter,” TyesThe committee saidTheirletter.

“There is also a video clip of a young man bent on attacking our lawmakers with baseless accusations. As Teyateyaneng constituency and branch committee, we held a meeting on July 7, 2024 to agree on the position of the women and men alliance elections. Therefore, we condemn the actions of these young men and their accomplices to create chaos among us.

“We are shocked by the allegations that our legislators are trying to remove the RFP leaders. Therefore, we call on those bent on defaming the reputation of our legislators to desist immediately as these allegations are baseless and false.”

Another RFP MP, Mope Khati, who represents the Pela-Tṧoeu constituency, also accused Lephema of trying to take over from Prime Minister Matekane and focusing on winning voter support rather than fulfilling his ministerial duties. Khati criticized Lephema for recruiting people to work in the Ministry of Interior. From the constituencybypassing the MPs.

Mr Khati describedgentlemenLephema was a “cancer plaguing the RFP” and vowed to denounce wrongdoings in the party publicly.

RFP deputy spokesperson and Thaba Phatšoa lawmaker Thabo Maretlane denied any knowledge of the letter in an interview and described the circulated video clip asonlypublicity. He insisted that the NEC was functioning well.

A senior RFP official toldlesotho timesThe person, who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to be able to speak freely, said Mr Lefima’s main argument was that he should at least be made deputy leader of the party.

“Lefima felt aggrieved because he wanted Ntomeen’s position. He claimed that he had invested a lot in building the RFP, just like Ntate Matken himself. Therefore, he thought he was at least entitled to the position of deputy leader of the party to offset his contribution. Once he became deputy leader of the party, he knew that he was only one step away from the ultimate reward (prime minister).

“That is why he sponsored Mahali (Pamotes) when she pushed for the NEC elections and when she (Pamotes) was running to succeed Ntati (Murosi) as secretary general before she (Pamotes) was expelled. Pamotes was completely at Lefima’s behest.”
