Any choice would need to be suitable for helping her defeat Republican Donald Trump and potentially serve as president one day (if she wins in November but then is unable to fulfill her duties at some point).
Possible candidates to be Harris’ running mate include Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Arizona U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper.
Holder is a civil rights advocate and chairs the National Democratic Redistricting Commission, which works to fight Republican gerrymandering — the practice of politicians redrawing U.S. state districts to give their party an advantage.
The organization believes that Republicans use the power of “redistricting” to deprive voters, especially people of color, of their right to vote.
Harris is also a voting rights advocate who made the issue part of her portfolio when she first became Biden’s vice president, but her efforts have not resulted in significant reforms.
