Vice President Harris is expected to meet with Netanyahu separately from Biden at the White House later this week, according to an aide to Vice President Harris. He said the deputy will be traveling to Indianapolis on July 24 for an earlier planned event, so she will not be able to preside over the congressional session where Netanyahu is scheduled to address. “Throughout her career, the vice president has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to Israel’s security. That remains true today,” Harris’ aide said.
The aide also said Harris “will continue to be actively engaged in the war in Gaza” during her meeting with Netanyahu. The vice president’s aide said Harris will emphasize to Netanyahu her commitment to ensuring Israel can defend against threats from Iran and Iranian-backed militias, including Hezbollah and Hamas. He added that Harris also “reiterated her condemnation of Hamas’ brutal terrorist attack on October 7 and the horrific sexual violence committed by Hamas.”
“She will reiterate her deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the loss of innocent life. We expect the vice president to discuss with Netanyahu efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement. She will tell Netanyahu that it is time for the war to end in a way that Israel is secure, all abductees are released, the suffering of the Palestinian citizens of Gaza ends, and the Palestinian people will be able to enjoy dignity, freedom, and self-determination,” the vice president’s assistant said.
