U.S. President Joe Biden said Israel had made a new three-stage proposal that included a cessation of hostilities and the release of all prisoners.
Biden said in a press statement at the White House that Israel had put forward a new proposal in three stages.
Biden said that in the first phase of the six-week ceasefire, Israel proposed to withdraw its troops from Gaza settlements and release some prisoners held by all parties.
Biden said that “the second phase will be the release of all prisoners, including male soldiers, and Israel will withdraw from Gaza. He said: “The phase of stopping the attacks will turn into a cessation of hostilities.”
Biden stressed that if the current round of talks between the two sides lasts more than six weeks, the interim agreement stipulating a halt to attacks while the talks continue will remain in effect.
Looking back at the second phase, if the two sides reach an agreement in all aspects, Biden will enter the third phase. In the final phase, the Gaza reconstruction phase will be put on the agenda, and death row prisoners will remain in Israel. The two sides will exchange hands.
US President Biden stressed that the proposal is expected to be accepted by Israel and Hamas.
