Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi will not play in this week’s Major League Soccer All-Star Game, Major League Soccer said on Monday, eight days after the Argentina superstar withdrew from the Copa America final with an ankle injury.
Messi is among the players who are unavailable for Wednesday’s game in Columbus, Ohio, which will pit MLS All-Stars from 18 league clubs against top players from the Mexican Major League Soccer League.
The 37-year-old has had a stellar career in Europe and joined Inter Miami in July 2023, and this game will be his first appearance in the MLS All-Star Game.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has 12 goals and 13 assists in his first 12 games for Inter Miami in 2024, making him the fastest player to reach 25 goals in an MLS season.
The All-Star Game will be held on July 24 at 8 pm ET (0000 GMT).
