Youssef Al-Shamlan is stepping up his training in preparation for the Olympics.

Paris, July 22: The Kuwaiti flag was raised at the Kuwaiti delegation headquarters as soon as the Kuwaiti delegation arrived at the Olympic Village in Paris. Immediately upon arrival, the administrative and technical delegations began coordinating preparations to welcome the athletes. They reviewed the arrival and departure protocols and finalized the schedule for technical meetings and training sessions for each sport.

Kuwaiti athletes have arrived in Paris to prepare for the six sports in which Kuwait competes (archery, fencing, rowing, swimming, athletics and sailing). Kuwait is sending nine athletes to the 2024 Paris Olympics in six sports: Khaled Al-Mudhaf (skeet) and Muhammad Al-Daihani (skeet); Yousef Al-Shamlan (sabre) in fencing; Yacoub Al-Yawha (110m hurdles) and Amal Al-Roumi (800m) in athletics; Muhammad Al-Zubaid (100m freestyle) and Lara Dashti (100m breaststroke) in swimming; Souad Al-Faqaan in rowing; and Amina Shah in sailing.

Abdul Karim Shamran, president of the Kuwait Fencing Federation, stressed that Yusuf Shamran’s preparations for the Olympics have lasted for more than a year, including attending external training camps and intensive training under the guidance of Italian coach Giovanni Maria. Shamran recently won a bronze medal at the Asian Fencing Championships held in Kuwait last June.

Abdul Karim Al Shamran further explained that Yusuf Al Shamran has completed a training camp in Bruscatti, Italy, and has now joined the Kuwaiti delegation in Paris. Al Shamran will participate in the sabre event for the first time at the Olympics, and the preliminaries will begin on the 27th of this month.
