Terrorist groups should not be considered legitimate actors

Yildiz was speaking at a UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting, where the political and humanitarian situation in Syria was discussed. Yildiz said the humanitarian situation in Syria is dire and is deteriorating, with 16.7 million people in the country in need of humanitarian assistance.

Yildiz noted that a quarter of those in need of humanitarian assistance live in northwest Syria.

Syria’s humanitarian crisis

Emphasizing that the impact of the humanitarian situation in Syria affects not only the country but also the region and beyond, Yildiz said new refugee flows should be taken into account when providing sustainable funding.

Ambassador Yildiz said Turkey will continue to cooperate with the United Nations on cross-border humanitarian aid.

Emphasis on the YPG/PKK

Yildiz noted that the international community should urgently act to achieve a permanent solution to the conflict and recognize the deteriorating situation in Syria, noting the importance of a comprehensive approach to address the political, security and humanitarian dimensions of the conflict.
