The consequences of the storm that broke out in the Panevėžys region more than a week ago are already being counted.
Foresters are now waiting for permission to clear more than 3,000 cubic meters of trees, so strong that winds uprooted trees in a half-kilometer radius. The work could take up to two weeks.
The storm that broke out in the Panevėžys region on July 13 may have caused the downing of most trees on and near the Paliūniškis-Vabalninkas regional road.
The head of the Panevėžys regional branch of the State Forestry Administration, Gidelius Bronuš, said the storm came suddenly. Rain and wind started around 19:00, and soon firefighters and rescue workers had to go to guide motorists who were trapped and whose cars had overturned on the road.
According to the interlocutor, within half a kilometer of the green forest, the wind just sweeps the trees.
