Prime Minister Christian Ntsay travelled to Taolagnaro last Friday to follow the progress of the project. Efaho Pipeline Construction ProjectAccording to a press release from the Mahajoz Arvo Palace, the first phase of construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2024.
The pipeline will pass through sixty (60) villages in the three regions of Tauranaro, Amboasary Atsimo and Ambovombe and will irrigate the Sampona, Maroalopoty and Maroalomainty plains. The project will benefit about 500,000 inhabitants with drinking water. 80,000 hectares of agricultural land will be irrigated and 120 water points for livestock will be established. The budget allocated to the project is estimated at US$80 million.
The Efaho pipeline was launched in April 2023 and the construction phase began in November 2023. The work was entrusted to the Chinese company Top International Engineering.
The project involves the construction of a large infrastructure in Andakana for water collection and purification. The latter is not limited to the construction of simple pipes: it also involves the construction of a network of pumps that allow water to circulate to the pipes. The main achievements include the installation of two water pipelines, each 31 kilometers long, with intermediate reservoirs to ensure a continuous supply. The Prime Minister noted in a press release that 11 kilometers of pipelines are already available at the site.
