International lawyers define nationality as the social, political and legal bond that exists between an individual and a state, by which the individual becomes one of the residents of the state.
Article 7 of the Sudanese Constitution of 2005 on citizenship and nationality states: – Citizenship is the basis of equal rights and duties for all Sudanese. Every person born of a Sudanese mother or father has an inalienable right to Sudanese nationality. Citizenship and naturalization are provided for by law. Any Sudanese may acquire citizenship by naturalization, except as provided by law.
All day yesterday, I felt sadness and grief as I looked at the photo of the brave fighter, General Ibrahim Almaz Deng, leader of the Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement, holding his Sudanese passport that he had been deprived of for many years. The source of my sadness was seeing a true Sudanese citizen and grandson of a freedom fighter who won the glorious revolution for freedom and independence but was deprived of his most basic natural rights. To pay tribute to this fighter in the name of this grandson, as a tribute and gratitude to those who established the values of protecting the homeland, he instead bargained and extorted his natural rights.
The denial of General Ibrahim Almaz’s natural right to restore his nationality and obtain a passport, from which he has been deprived for many years, is the result of his efforts and his rejection of all convincing attempts to stop him from demanding his inherent legal rights. Although the man was greatly hurt by this deprivation, as would be the case in any respectable country, he suffered psychological, moral and material damage from being deprived of his identity documents. He fought until he got what he wanted.
The news that Almaz was stripped of his citizenship and the photo published in the newspaper should shame every dictator and racist who has deprived Almaz and his family of this right.
Ibrahim Almaz’s case is not the only one, nor the first, on the contrary, his cousin Adel Borei was surprised when his Sudanese citizenship was revoked when he went to the Civil Registration Center to obtain citizenship in 2013. Although Adel Borei’s citizenship was revoked in 2017, his son still wanted to take the secondary school exams, however, Sudanese citizenship remains an object of cheap politics and racist bargaining, and tyrants make it a sword hanging around the necks of their opponents.
Freedom fighter Ibrahim Almaz and some convicted movement leaders were pardoned out of goodwill, including some who carried out the glorious long-arm operation after the presidential decision was issued. However, the man did not leave (prison) to go to his home in Hajj Youssef, a suburb east of Khartoum, but returned to prison again as a prisoner of the Foreigners Affairs Department of the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior, under the pretext that he was a southern citizen and had to go to the south.
Ironically, there are foreigners who have Sudanese nationality and have no connection with the land of their homeland, on the contrary, they become objects of surprise at any station with a Sudanese passport, and at this time it is the grandson of the national hero Abdul. -Fadil Almaz, one of the most prominent officials of the White Flag Society and the Glorious Revolution of 1924, who led a liberation revolution when hundreds of thousands of mercenaries were granted citizenship. Today is destroying our homeland, and there are also Levantines, who left the country that gave them citizenship and security and opened its arms to them and equated them with Sudanese citizens in all economic and investment activities, and some of them, far from returning this favor, act as informants for the militias, and even drive most of the luxury vehicles, the militias, using high security technology, brought in some people to decipher their codes, so they carry out robberies and cross the border to Niger and Mali.
The most blatant, ridiculous and laughable irony is that Ibrahim Almaz’s son and wife both hold Sudanese citizenship, and even the witness who is the basic requirement for issuing a passport is his son.
It is important to point out now that Lieutenant General Ibrahim Almaz Deng, accompanied by Sir Hamid Tiya and Mahjoub Mohammed Jazuli Izz, was captured by Sudanese intelligence while performing administrative duties for the Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement in West Darfur. Al-Arab, along with Mohammed Khamis, Ibrahim Safi Al-Nour and Yahya Adam Ibrahim, and on the day that Almaz and his companions were sentenced to death in March 2012, a strong cheer broke out immediately after the verdict was read. In the court, the prisoners’ families shouted slogans on Almaz’s own initiative and praised the late movement leader Khalil Ibrahim, while his wife supported him in shouting slogans, while the police hurriedly took the prisoners’ families out of the hall. And described the prisoners who beat the executioner at that time.
There is no doubt that similar cases, the same circumstances and facts suffered by General Ibrahim Almaz and his family, in this case, unless their voices arouse public opinion, we hope that this will be an opportunity so that such humiliating incidents will not be repeated for the dignity of Sudanese citizens.
Greetings, pride and admiration to Comrade Khalil, General Ibrahim Almas Deng, because he took away his natural right through struggle and courage and did not succumb to the voices that always tried to convince him to accept the reality that racists and tyrants put him in. , but he refused to take it away and he got what he wanted.
# I also want to convey a message to the Sudanese Justice and Equality Foundation and its leadership, I know they have made great efforts to ensure that Almaz realizes his wishes, but we hope that the movement’s Legal Affairs Secretariat and all respected jurists will work hard and continue the journey with the same determination to obtain generous compensation for the moral and material losses suffered by the fighter Ibrahim Almaz.
