Minsk, July 21 /Corr. Belta/. The World Championships in canoeing and kayaking for juniors (U18) and juniors (U23) with the participation of Belarusian athletes came to an end in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Belarus News Agency correspondent reported.
The fifth and final day of the World Youth Championships saw eight medal events, with our rowers competing in three Sunday finals. In the 1000m double canoe race, Vladislav Poleshko and Danila Vereshchako won silver, while Spanish athletes Pablo Crespo and Manuel Fontan won the category, and Germany took third place.
Canoeist Denis Ermolenko won the MFM silver medal twice – today, the Belarusian athlete performed well in the 1,000-meter race, losing only to the American Jonas Ecker. In the battle for second place, our athlete was half a second ahead of the German Tobias Hammer. In the women’s single canoe 500-meter race, Belarusian Ina Nedelkina was close to a medal: she took fifth place, only 0.2 seconds behind the bronze medalist.
At the World Forum of Rowers Under 23, our team won a total of seven medals (3-3-1). Earlier, Danila Vereshchako (single canoe, 1000 m), Ilya Vereshchako and Stanislav Savelyev (double canoe, 500 m) and the four-man team of Vladislav Poleshko, Savelyev and Vereshchako brothers (canoe four, 500 m) became world champions. In addition, Denis Ermolenko won the silver medal in the 500 m race, and canoeist Lyudmila Sinkel took third place in the 1,000 m race.
Rowers under 18 added six medals to the Belarusian treasury (4-1-1). The total score of our delegation at the Junior and Youth World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, was 13 medals (7 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze) -0-.
