On the occasion of Berane City Day on July 21, Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović extended his warmest congratulations to the Chairman of the City Council, members of the City Council, the management and employees of the municipality, and all citizens of Berane.

“Throughout history, the city of Berane has been the cradle of liberal ideas more than once. This was also evidenced by the first meeting of the People’s Liberation Committee of Berane County, which was held on July 21, 1941 in response to the Montenegrin uprising. This important date is one of the most important in the historical memory of the Vasojevic region,” said Milatovic.

He said that the spread of the news of the uprising against the scourge of fascism awakened the liberal spirit of the brave citizens of Belan, who unanimously and selflessly made a significant contribution to the anti-fascist struggle and the subsequent final liberation of our country.

Milatovic said that today, just like in the most difficult times, Berane was and remains a model for preserving coexistence, inter-ethnic and inter-religious harmony, which are the most important values of Montenegrin society.

“Berane is a regional intersection with rich natural beauty, such as the Berane Basin, surrounded by the Belaška, Smijevica and Tulyak Mountains, and had the potential to become a leader in economic development in our North. The last decades of the 20th century were characterized by the accelerated development of the Berane economy, led by giants such as “Celluloza”, “Polimka”, Rudnik, ŠIK “Polimlje” and others, which financed all aspects of life in this beautiful community. Unfortunately, the following decades brought bad privatization, mismanagement and stagnation of the city’s economic development.”

Milatovic noted that he firmly believes that the time has come for investments and progress in one of the most beautiful cities in northern Montenegro.

“Better pricing of natural resources and improvements in key transport infrastructure provide opportunities to strengthen economic activity in the sectors of agriculture, forestry and tourism, which will create space for new jobs, attract investments and keep young people in the region. I am confident that the responsible approach of the local administration to these possibilities, in coordination with the national authorities, will allow all Beran citizens to enjoy a better quality of life and create favorable conditions for the development and progress of the community. With good wishes for the further prosperity of your municipality, I sincerely congratulate Berane City Day,” wrote Milatovic in his message.
