Namibian piglet producers still find it profitable to sell piglets to South Africa due to Namibia’s relatively unfavourable climate and high input costs.
The export volume of live cattle in June this year increased by 39.09% compared with the same period last year.
According to the Livestock and Livestock Products Board’s (LLPB) monthly market watch, live exports fell by 0.71% from 17,485 cattle exported in May to 17,361 cattle exported in June this year.
A whopping 96.33% of exported cattle (mainly calves) went to South Africa.

“Throughout 2024, the SAFEX yellow maize feed price continued to hover below N5,000/tonne, with the price dropping by 2.51% to N3,936.15/kg in June 2024 from N4,037.35/kg in May 2024.”
Yellow maize prices fell slightly due to a good harvest and good stock levels in the South African market, LLPB said.
