Microsoft has issued a new statement regarding global software issues caused by CrowdStrike, which provides cybersecurity services to the company.
The statement reminded that independent cybersecurity company CrowdStrike released a software update that began affecting global information technology systems on July 18.
The statement said that although this was not a Microsoft incident, it affected its ecosystem, and since the incident, the company has been in continuous communication with customers, CrowdStrike and external developers to collect information and accelerate solutions.

The statement noted that while software updates can occasionally cause problems, major incidents like CrowdStrike are rare, and said, “We currently estimate that the CrowdStrike update impacted 8.5 million Windows devices, or less than one percent of all Windows machines.”
The statement noted that while the proportion is small, the broad economic and social impact reflects the use of CrowdStrike by organizations that provide many critical services, and the incident reveals the interconnected nature of a broad ecosystem consisting of global cloud providers, software platforms, security software providers and customers.
