Israeli forces shelled Gaza today, killing at least 30 Palestinians. Overnight attacks on two refugee camps killed at least 25 people, and Gaza’s health ministry said today that 37 people were killed and 54 others were injured in 24 hours.

The victims included local journalist Mohamed Abu Jaser, who was killed along with his wife and two children when his family’s house was shelled, bringing the number of journalists killed by Israeli forces in Gaza since October 7 last year to 161.

The deadliest was the attack on the Nusserat refugee camp, according to Reuters and Spanish news agency EFE, but attacks were also intense in the besieged Palestinian enclave of northern Gaza City, where Israeli forces are again conducting operations for the first time in weeks.

There, the Israelis are searching for Islamist militants who have regrouped in northern Gaza, at a time when the Israeli army is focusing its operations in the south. As a result, communities previously declared “neutral” by Israel are now once again in conflict.

At the same time, Israeli troops drove tanks into the northern and western areas of Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza, where they are still fighting militants from the Islamist movement Hamas.

Data from the local Ministry of Health show that nearly 39,000 people have died and more than 89,000 have been injured in Gaza since October 7 last year.
