The Mrs. Universe Jamaica pageant has been rescheduled to facilitate recovery efforts following Hurricane Beryl. The new winner will be crowned on August 24 at the AC Hotel in Kingston.

Shannon Green, national director of Caribbean Pageants Inc., said the extra preparation time will ensure the event retains its elegant charm. “The performances on coronation night will be larger than originally planned and the team has gone back to the drawing board.” According to Green, the organization hopes to showcase not only the typical grace of Mrs. Universe Jamaica, but also the tenacity of the 2024 delegates.

Speaking about the ladies’ ongoing preparation, Green said: “(The 2024 delegates move on) with sensitivity and compassion, recognising that at the end of this journey, each of them remains an ambassador for the brand. “They must represent the heart of Jamaica and give a voice to humanity and its struggles.” The nine contestants continue to train but will be assessed both in person and virtually by a panel of pageant experts to ensure they perform at their best, checking confidence, emotional literacy, public speaking, gait and attire, among other things.

Mrs. Universe Jamaica has some surprises in store for the 2024 Mrs. Universe contestants and supporters of the organization. This year’s event includes an Education and Immigration Expo, which is free and open to the public and will be held at the AC Hotel the day before the coronation night on August 23. Three additional titles will be awarded to the runner-up of the Mrs. Universe Jamaica competition. These titles have not yet been announced to the public, and Green revealed: “You have to wait until the finals to enjoy these surprises, otherwise they are not surprises.”

This year’s pageant was exceptionally competitive. The nine finalists vying for the title of Mrs. Universe Jamaica and the opportunity to compete internationally come from diverse backgrounds across the island of Jamaica. Not only are they beautiful and regal, they are also intelligent and community leaders bringing pride and change to their country and the world at large. Their platforms span child mental health and well-being, domestic violence support, and empowering marginalized and at-risk groups, which aligns with the organization’s mission.
