Yesterday, Sunday, the committee monitoring the Uganda Sudanese Journalists Syndicate by-election announced that Ezzedine Arbab won the presidential seat by securing 36 votes out of 44, while his rival, Sulafa Abu Dhafira, received only nine votes.
Women won four seats, or 50 percent of the parliamentary seats, according to the results announced by the committee’s chairman, former Information Minister Faisal Mohammed Saleh, with the participation of observers and legal experts from the “Emergency Lawyers” executive office.
(8) Journalists were selected from a list of (14) candidates to fill seats in the executive offices: Badriya Abdel Qader, Abu Dhar Masoud, Mortada Ahmed, Zamzam Khater, Fath al-Rahman Hamouda, Awatif Ishaq, Hawa Daoud and Issa Dafalla.
The preliminary committee to form the subcommittee was elected by Sudanese journalists in Uganda at a meeting on June 19 last year, attended by a total of 65 male and female journalists, of which about 40 are registered journalists in Uganda.
The meeting determined that two weeks would be required to complete the drafting of the organizational charter and arrangements for the convening of the general meeting of shareholders and the election charter. The meeting elected seven members to assume the responsibilities of the preliminary committee: Hawa Dawood, Mohammed Hussein, Ahmed Khalil, Iman Hussein, Malak Jamal, Ammar Hassan and Mahsin Ahmed.
The committee began its duties by reviewing the constitution and related regulations and prepared a draft regulation which was approved yesterday at the next General Assembly meeting.
