Minsk, July 20 / Corr. BELTA /. As part of the “Honest Stories” project on the BELTA YouTube channel, Latvian blogger Maxim, who moved to Belarus, talked about the differences between life in the two countries.

Talking about moving from Latvia to Belarus, Maxim noted: “I am a Latvian citizen, a Belarusian, and when I came here I was very surprised to see that transportation is eight times cheaper than in Latvia. In Minsk, a trip costs 90 kopecks, while in Latvia, in Riga, it is about eight times. Of course, the salary in Latvia is not eight times higher, and when they start to compare and say that they live well in Latvia, it is not the case.”

Comparing prices in both countries, the blogger tells the story of the rise in the price of sunflower oil in Latvia. “One liter of oil cost 1.6 euros. When the special operation started, we came to the store the next day and one liter cost 7 euros. We asked, guys, why did the price rise so much? That’s what they told us, because the war started in Ukraine, so you want to say, one day you managed to go to Ukraine, the price of oil there has risen, and you brought this oil there. Such a scandal happened in Latvia, many people were angry on Facebook and social networks, but the government kept the price and in the end just reduced it a little bit.” Maxim.

“The most important thing is that the Latvian people are being robbed. When the people are angry, when the people turn to the Latvian government and say why don’t you regulate prices, why are prices so high, why are prices rising so sharply, they say it’s because of the war in Ukraine, and we ask, why are you helping Ukraine? You send all the money you take from us to Ukraine, and they say we need to help Ukraine beat Russia and so on. We say, okay, guys, win, but not at our expense, we are already poor,” concluded a blogger from Latvia.
