Cambodia, once devastated by the Khmer Rouge and the Vietnam War, is now emerging as a beacon of economic growth and opportunity. That’s great news for our most important trading partner, the United States.

Despite the hardships of our past, with more than 2 million lives lost and lingering war debt, Cambodia has demonstrated tremendous resilience and creativity. Under the leadership of our new Prime Minister, Hun Manet, a proud graduate of West Point, we are ready to enter a new era of prosperity. This year, GDP is expected to grow 6.2%, up from 5.3% last year. Our newest project—the Phu Nan Canal, a $1.7 billion infrastructure investment that will begin construction next month—will redefine Cambodia’s economic and environmental landscape. In addition to creating up to 50,000 jobs and attracting foreign direct investment, it will transform Asia’s import-export trade, especially benefiting our largest export partner, the United States. For American businesses and investors, this opens up a wealth of opportunities.
