Are you smarter than a fifth grader? is an American game show that originally aired in 2007, hosted by Jeff Foxworthy. The show aired on Fox until 2011, then returned for a fourth season in 2015. In 2019, Nickelodeon took over the show, with new host John Cena.

On the show, an adult contestant needs to answer 10 questions, plus a bonus question, to win a cash prize. The first correct answer wins $1,000, the second correct answer wins $2,000, the third correct answer wins $5,000, the fourth correct answer wins $10,000, and the fifth correct answer wins $25,000. If they answer all 5 correctly, they are guaranteed to win $25,000.

The game continues with question 6 being worth $50,000, question 7 being worth $100,000, question 8 being worth $175,000, question 9 being worth $300,000, and question 10 being worth $500,000. If they answer the final bonus question correctly, they win $1,000,000!

The difficulty of the questions ranges from first grade to fifth grade and covers a variety of subjects such as mathematics, science and geography.

Each season, the show features 5 to 6 elementary school students. Contestants can ask a student on stage for help, including 2 cheats and 1 rescue.

The first cheating method is peeking, where the contestant can peek at a child’s answer and decide if they want to use it. The second cheating method is copying, where the contestant can copy a child’s answer without seeing it first. As for saving, if the contestant answers incorrectly, they can be saved and continue playing the game if the child’s answer is correct.
