Kandahar (Pajhwok): Pakistani firefighters along with their Afghan colleagues put out a fire at a battery and spare parts market in Spin Boldak area of southern Kandahar province before noon on Friday.
Local officials in Kandahar confirmed that the fire broke out at the Wish Market shortly after 11 a.m. and that firefighters had arrived at the scene.
Residents said the fire was still burning and authorities in Chaman, on the other side of the Durand Line, were also requested to help put out the fire.
Rahimullah, a shopkeeper in the market, said fire extinguishers from Chaman also arrived to help put out the fire.
Sayed Wali, another shopkeeper, said most of the shops inside the market sell batteries and auto parts and these may have sustained a lot of damage.
Security officials said Kandahar city’s fire brigade and army had also arrived at the scene.
The damage has not yet been assessed, and officials said they will share relevant information as the incident progresses.
