Seven people were reportedly killed in two traffic accidents in different parts of the country last weekend.

The first fatal crash occurred on the night of Friday, July 12, when three members of a family were killed on the Southern Highway. Preliminary reports indicated that a gray Toyota pickup truck driven by Jose Tush, a 51-year-old man from Aguacate village, collided with a white Ford F-150 driven by Emilio Lizama, a 43-year-old man from El Procheso village in Cayo district, between Eldridgeville and Jacintoville in Tordeo district just after 7 p.m.

The Tash family was reportedly leaving the town of Punta Gorda and returning home when the accident occurred. Jose Tash reportedly overtook a motorcycle and hit Lisamar head-on, who was driving in the opposite direction.
Tush was carrying several relatives when the accident happened: his wife, Louisa Tush, 50; Elvis Tush, 30; Michael Tush, 5; Renita Tush, 17; Nathan Pope, 13; Maki Pope, 10; Eric Tull, 6; Katherine Salaam, 29; Cadilla Tush, 3; and Kayleen Tush, 8.
Renita Tash was ejected from the pickup truck and landed on the shoulder of the highway, where she died. Her father, Jose Tash, who was driving the vehicle, also died at the scene. The others were taken to a Punta Gorda hospital for treatment, where Michael Tash died.
Belize Police Eastern Region Commander ACP Hilberto Romero confirmed the above information and speculated that Lizama had consumed alcohol before the accident and issued him a Notice of Intent to Prosecute (NIP).
Another fatal accident occurred in the Orange Walk area, where four people were killed just after 6:30 a.m. on the Philip Goldson Highway near the village of Carmelita at Mile 45 and Mile 46.

According to reports, a grey Mitsubishi SUV driven by Cecilio de Jesus Arana, 41, of Trinidad Street, Orange Walk Township, was heading to Belize City. He died on the spot, while a black Pontiac Vibe coming from the opposite direction lost control and collided with a car driven by Jesus Chi, 39, a teacher from Palma Village.

According to reports, when the authorities arrived at the scene, they saw Arana sitting motionless in the driver’s seat. His son, Alan Arana, was sitting in the passenger seat with cuts on his face and trapped in the front seat; uniformed police officer Andy Garcia was sitting in the back seat with a broken right foot and cuts on his face.
Meanwhile, inside the Pontiac Vibe, Chi was trapped behind the wheel, conscious but with large cuts to both knees. Chi’s passenger, Gustavo Chi, 37, was found motionless in the passenger seat. Additionally, one of Chi’s passengers, Angelita Chi, was found lying face up on the sidewalk.
All the injured were taken to Northern Regional Hospital – Cecilio De Jesus Arana, Gustavo Chi, Angelita Chi and Alan Arana all died.
