It was with some trepidation that I ventured into Momentum’s “Change the World” extravaganza – a parallel conference to the main Labour Party conference. Momentum has a reputation for being tough: they were responsible for ensuring Brexit wasn’t actually discussed at the conference, for example. There were plenty of journalists being slammed at the conference: BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg was accompanied by bodyguards, and any mention of the press was met with derision. “Change the World” was held in an unsavory cluster of rooms: a makeshift “hub” where people gathered to chat and organise events, a huge nightclub where meetings were held, and other rooms that looked too intimidating to enter.
