HONG KONG, July 18: A Cathay Pacific flight attendant was in an unusual predicament this week: the bathroom door broke just minutes after take-off on a flight from Hong Kong to New York, forcing her to hold it open for 16 hours.
The bathroom door fell off the flight from Hong Kong International Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport just three minutes into takeoff on Monday, the South China Morning Post reported.
During the flight, flight attendants attempted to reinstall the door but were unsuccessful. It is not clear if anyone was in the bathroom when the malfunction occurred.
Photos published by the South China Morning Post showed the flight attendant in visibly distress as she clutched the door. The incident occurred during takeoff and raised questions about how the door came off.
Despite the unexpected situation, the flight landed safely at its destination around 5 pm on Monday.
Cathay Pacific issued a statement to the South China Morning Post in response to the incident: “The defect has been fixed and our engineering team is conducting follow-up investigations. The safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance and we apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this has caused.”
