Local associations and support groups also play a vital role, allowing these women to share their experiences and reduce isolation.

Support from social and family networks, where available, constituted a valuable resource. Stories of resilience abound: some women overcame challenges by creating small businesses, continuing their studies, or participating in community projects.
The perception of single mothers in Mali is slowly changing. Although stereotypes and discrimination still exist, progress is being made through awareness-raising and education. At a legislative level, recent reforms aim to improve the situation for single parents. However, much more needs to be done to ensure true equality of opportunity.
I got pregnant as a teenager and I didn’t know how to handle it, and I suffered a lot because my family was not forgiving of me. I went through a difficult time and had no help from the father of the child. But I understood my family, they just wanted me to understand that I did something wrong and to take me on a good path, which helped me a lot. “I gathered my courage and continued my studies with the child. I will do my best not to disappoint my parents and take good care of this innocent child,” single mother KM testified.
For psychologist Dr. Maga, a girl’s pregnancy is equivalent to a premature and immature period in her life. They are suddenly faced with the life of a mother with less support and companionship, which usually comes from a spouse and parents. This new life situation has a certain impact on a person’s psychological state: isolation and suicidal tendencies in the family, depression and most often dark thoughts leading to abortion, guilt, self-esteem problems and loss of self-esteem. Appetite, sleep problems, anxiety.
Experts such as sociologists and social workers stress the importance of recognizing and valuing the contributions of single mothers. They recommend improving social policies and specific measures to support these families.
Single mothers play an important role in Malian society. Their resilience and ability to overcome adversity is admirable. It is our collective responsibility to support them and create an environment more conducive to their development and that of their children. By recognizing and valuing their contributions, we are building a more inclusive and supportive society.
