President Joe Biden has tested positive for Covid-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms of the virus, the White House announced.

Biden, 81, tested positive after visiting Las Vegas, where he is expected to speak later at the UnidosUS annual conference. The US president has previously tested positive for Covid-19 twice.
The president’s physician said Biden has received his first dose of Paxil and will self-isolate at his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.
A note from Biden’s doctor, provided by House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, said “the President experienced upper respiratory symptoms this afternoon, including a runny nose and a dry cough.”
“He appeared well during his first activity of the day, but as he subsequently felt ill, he was tested by a COVID-19 care provider and the result was positive for COVID-19,” the announcement said.
Janet Murguía, president and CEO of UnidosUS, also held a press conference after the White House confirmed the news, after Biden arrived an hour and a half later than his scheduled appearance.
“I just got off the phone with President Biden. He was deeply disappointed that he couldn’t join us this afternoon. As you all know, the president is involved in a lot of events and he just tested positive for COVID-19,” Murguia told viewers.
Biden’s illness comes as he faces growing pressure to drop out of the presidential race because of his age and after a lackluster debate in late June.
