In the first leg of the 2024-25 ASEAN Club Championship qualifiers, Preah Khan Svay Rieng FC defeated the Young Elephants 3-2.
In the first half, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng controlled the ball and attacked vigorously. In the 19th minute, midfielder Gabriel Silva gave the visiting team a 0-1 lead, but in the 33rd minute, Japanese striker Takumu Nishihira equalized the score, 1-1.
Just three minutes later, goalkeeper Vireak Dara was sent off for a foul outside the box and goalkeeper Am Sovannarrath had to replace Kouch Dany to keep the scoreline safe against the home side with 10 men.
In the 37th minute, Uzbekistan’s Shaukhrukh took a free kick before the end of the first half and passed the Svazhen goalkeeper to take a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng dominated and launched fierce attacks despite having only 10 players. More favourably for the visiting team, the Young Elephants goalkeeper was also sent off after a mistake outside the penalty area.
Playing 10 to 10 Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng was more aggressive, but what was even more magical was that when Nhean Sosidan and Min Ratanak came in, the fighting area of Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng became more lively. Especially on the right side, Sosidan shook hard, and striker Christian scored two goals in the final moments to tie the score to 2-2, and Sosidan also scored the winning goal.
In the second leg at the National Stadium in Phnom Penh next week, both teams will have different starting goalkeepers.
