In an interview with the newspaper EL TIEMPO, the Minister of Information and Communications Technologies, Mauricio Lizcano, noted that his department has been working to promote connectivity in remote areas of Colombia.

“In the connectivity pillar, we are very committed to increasing Internet access (especially fiber access and satellite Internet) from 60% to 85%. We are working hard to connect the Pacific region, and today we have contracts with about 70 cities, of which we have to connect 178 cities. Next year we will connect 60 cities until we reach our goal.”, Lizcano pointed out.
According to MinTIC, they are currently studying Bringing the Internet to Pacific capitals, For example, Buenaventura, Tumaco, and Quibdo. In addition, their goal is to connect 144,000 families; so far, they have connected 20,000 families.
“This Thursday, July 18, we will launch the first 1,000 home connections in Buenaventura together with President Petro. Likewise, we are committed to providing connectivity to the other 10 municipalities of La Guajira and are advancing in Uraba Antioquia, in addition to projects we are carrying out in the Amazon region.Lizcano added.
Finally, the Minister of ICT stressed that after the arrival of 5G in Colombia, they are also advancing projects focused on telemedicine and cloud management.

In order to provide free digital skills training to people, the Ministry of ICT and the International Labour Organization (ILO) announced that through this program SenaTIC short courses will be available.
The course aims to enable 234,000 young people and adults to receive training in Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, IOS Developer, Android, Cybersecurity, UX (User Experience), Agile Methodology, Backend (Web Development), Frontend (Web Development), Digital Marketing, Python (Programming Language), Databases, Customer Management, Business Processes and Artificial Intelligence.
The short courses are free and supported by Google, AWS, META, IBM, Microsoft, Fortinet, Cisco and Oracle. In addition, they have the seal of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which guarantees that the skills and competencies acquired are internationally recognized, thus facilitating job placement at home and abroad.
