Party Conference – AIGE: The March 31 Movement demands the release of its comrades and the closing of the doors

After the Independent Electoral Management Body (AIGE) and the Consultative Framework of Political Parties lifted the suspension of activities and restarted activities, the President of the body held a meeting on Monday, July 15, 2024 in the room Banquet of the Bamako International Conference Center, Political Parties.
During this meeting, political groups participating in the March 31, 2024 movement closed the door of the room.
After an introductory speech by AIGE President Me Moustapha Ciss, Dr. Mahamadou Konat, a member of the March 31, 2024 Movement, presented a motion related to the imprisonment of 11 political leaders of the movement.
“We, the members of the March 31, 2024 group, especially FAR AnKawili ADEMA PARENA, Yelema PS Yele Koura, on behalf of AIGE and all fraternal political parties, demand that the authorities release our 11 politician comrades who have been unjustly detained. Moreover, we have a moral obligation to suspend our participation in this and other meetings until they are released”, he clarified before asking the AIGE President to allow his delegation to withdraw.

In response to this request, the AIGE president said that his organization cannot guarantee those who are in difficulty. “This is not a question to be asked of us in principle. We do not interfere in judicial proceedings. I would never do so because it is not part of our prerogative.
