Phnom Penh: On July 16, 2024, the Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, His Excellency Hem Vandy, presided over the opening ceremony of a water loss management training course held at the Phnom Penh Water Supply Department. The training course, which will be held on July 16-17 and 23, 2024, aims to strengthen the capacity of 11 water companies across the country to effectively implement clean water supply management. The first phase of the Pentagon strategy defines “water” as one of the five priority areas: people, roads, water, electricity and technology. Cambodia’s Sustainable Development Goals also set the goal of “achieving globalization and equity by providing safe and affordable drinking water for all.” In order to achieve the above strategies and goals, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation has been working to expand water supply across the country using national means and resources and in cooperation with development partners and relevant institutions including the private sector. “The training course is part of the Ministry’s action plan to strengthen the strategic role of the state in managing and leading the clean water sector by strengthening the capacity of the Water Supply Department,” said His Excellency Hem Vandy.
