Investigators with the Manchester Police Department speculate that the deaths of a couple in the Bigwood area of Craighead on Saturday night may have been the result of a domestic dispute.

The deceased have been identified as 39-year-old Tanisha Burton and 74-year-old Wilford Mollison.

“This is not a violent community. This community doesn’t typically see violent incidents of this nature. We see domestic disputes here quite often, and even this incident, we thought was probably domestic in nature,” said Deputy Superintendent Carey Duncan, who heads the department.

Police Communications Network reported that residents heard an explosion at Burton’s business premises around 10 p.m. on July 13. Police responded to the call and found Burton and Morrison lying on the ground with suspected gunshot wounds. They were taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. Another person who was shot was taken to the hospital for treatment.

“This is the first double murder in the parish, so we will be doing more community engagement and stakeholder meetings,” Duncan revealed to the news team.
