The closing ceremony of the 50th annual festival of the Egyptian Film Institute took place at the Renaissance Cinema under the slogan “Long Live Resistance, Long Live Palestine” and was attended by a group of elite press, media and filmmakers. The speech was opened by the President and Director of Photography of the Festival, Mr. Mahmoud Abdel Samie, who welcomed all the participants and said: “This festival has continued to be held uninterrupted for fifty years, despite the dissolution of the Film Institute, its members and its Board of Directors. “
He added that the festival was always held at the beginning of the year but was postponed to July due to the emergency. The festival’s slogan is “Egyptian Cinema for Egypt,” but this year’s slogan is “Long Live Resistance, Long Live Palestine,” which was added due to the situation the Palestinian people are going through.
Dr. Khalid Abdul Jalil, Deputy Minister of Culture, in his speech conveyed the greetings of Dr. Abdul Jalil, Minister of Culture. Ahmed Fuad Hanno then said that this film festival is a school that teaches culture, all films have been our school for many years, we must thank Professor Mahmoud Abdul Sami for bringing this film festival to its fiftieth edition, on this festival we salute all the members of the Film Association and the members of the jury.
After the speech, the president of the Union of Art Syndicates, director Omar Abdel Aziz, took the stage and said that the Film Society was a name that particularly shone in their lives, especially when they were students. Therefore, we thank them for coming to the festival in this way under such difficult circumstances, and the award ceremony and certificate presentation ceremony began.
Among them was the star of the Beaux Arts era, the most famous pioneer of art journalism, the guardian of Egyptian artistic memory, the late film historian Hassan Imam Omar, whose certificate of honor was received by his nephew Imam Omar. The name of the director, screenwriter and artist Mr. Badir was Mr. Badir, whose certificate of honor was received by his son, Mr. Sami Said Badir, who is well-known in the Arab film industry and is the sheikh of Egyptian and Arab directors. The director was Henry Barakat, whose certificate of honor was received by his daughter, Mrs. Randa Henry Barakat, who spoke about her father and said that he was one of the pillars of Egyptian cinema and the sheikh of Arab directors because he left behind great works. His films and works left an immortal mark, so she thanked the president of the Film Association Festival and all those who participated in this honor. The name of the star Hende Rostom was honored, and her daughter, Professor Basant Reda, also received a certificate in her honor. Afterwards, the winners took a group photo on stage, and writer and screenwriter Atef Bishay was honored, and composer and music composer Rajeh Daoud was honored. The great film distributor Antoine Zand received it from his son Shadi Antoine Zand. And writer and art critic Samir Gharib. The star was artist Ahmed Badil. Among the stars was artist Elham Shaheen. He was succeeded by writer and film critic Ahmed Shawqi and film critic Mohamed Tariq.
Screenwriter Atef Bishai said he was delighted to receive the award and dedicated the honor to the girls of Minya’s Panorama Barsha troupe because their win proved that true enlightenment is created by true art.
In his speech, artist Ahmed Badil expressed his pleasure at receiving this honor at the Golden Jubilee Film Association Film Festival, so he threw a candy to its director, Mr. Mahmoud Abdel Sami, and he was also happy with the slogan of this year’s festival: “Long Live Makana, Long Live Palestine”, and he dedicated this honor to his grandson Yassin.
Samir Gharib thanked the Director of Photography and Festival President Mahmoud Abdel Samy for the honor that surprised him and wished that Egyptian cinema would return to the forefront.
Artist Elham Shaheen said she was proud to be honoured at the Golden Jubilee celebrations, and praised the choice of this year’s festival slogan, and hoped that next year the war would end and we could celebrate the return of a Palestinian state.
Three of the best Arab films that were shortlisted by the festival two years ago received certificates of appreciation.
The certificate for the film “Mediterranean Fever” was received by producer Mohammed Hefzi, and the certificate for the film “Goodbye Julia” was received by producer and director Amjad Abu Ella, actor Nizar Juma and editor Heba Osman. Ella thanked Egypt for hosting the Sudanese people in such difficult circumstances. He then received the certificate for the film “Alam” from the distributor Shahinaz Al-Akkad.
The festival jury then came on stage to present awards to the Egyptian films competing in the festival, including Dr. Rania Yahya, Dean of the Higher School of Art Criticism at the Academy of Arts, and Dr. Rahma Montaser, film editor, Professor Tarek El-Shenawy, Professor of Editing at the Academy of Film, Professor Adel Al-Aasar, film critic, Mr. Omar Abdel Aziz, film director, Ms. Magda, film director and president of the Union of Art Syndicates, Mr. Morris, film critic, Mr. Magdy Kamel, sound and mixing engineer (apologies for not being able to attend due to travel reasons), Dr. Mohsen Ahmed, director and director of photography, Dr. Mahmoud Mohsen, photographer, and Dr. Walid Saif, professor of decoration at the Academy of Film, and Hani Lashin, writer, film critic, and film director (president of the jury), took a group photo with everyone and announced the awards as follows:
The Best Sound Mixing Award went to engineer Tariq Alloush for the film “House of Ruby”, and the Best Decoration Award went to engineer Ahmed Fayez for the film “House of Ruby”. The Best Musician Award went to musician Khaled Hammad for the film “House of Ruby”, and the Best Editing Award went to editor Sarah Abdullah for the film “19 B”. The Best Cinematography Award went to director of photography Hussein Aser for the film “House of Ruby”, and the Best Director Award went to director Ahmed Abdullah Al-Sayed for the film “19 B”.
The Special Award for Performance was won by artist Taha El-Desouki for the film “Voy Voy Voy”. The Best Actor Award was won by artist Karim Mahmoud Abdel Aziz for the film “Beit El Ruby” and by Hussein Asser.
The Best Actress Award went to artist Hanan Youssef for the film “Voy Voy Voy”, while the Best Actor Award went to artist Karim Abdel Aziz for the film “Beit El Ruby”. By Abdel Jalil Hassan.
The Special Jury Prize was won by Director of Photography Mustafa Al-Kashef for the film “19B” and by Producer Mohamed Hefzy, the Outstanding Performance Award was won by Artist Sayed Ragab for the film “19B” and by Director Ahmed Abdullah Said, the First Work Award was won by Director Omar Hilal for the film “Voy Voy Voy”, the Best Film 19B Award was won by Producer Mohamed Hefzy, and the Audience Choice Best Film Award was won by “Voy Voy Voy” and by Director Walid Al-Halafawi for “Wash Fi Wash”.
