Muscat: Oman’s meteorological department issued a rain alert on Monday due to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds.

According to the weather forecast, thunderstorms are expected from Monday with scattered thundershowers of 10 to 25 mm.

The affected areas include mountainous and desert areas in the governorates of Dahiliya, Dhahira, North Sharqiyah, Buraimi and North Batinah.

Active wind gusts are expected to be between 15 – 45 knots.

Areas of spread and movement of low and moderate clouds include parts of Muscat, Musandam and North Batinah over the Sea of Oman, as well as South Ashqiya, North Ashqiya, Usta and Dhofar governorates.

Horizontal visibility is low in the coastal and mountainous areas of Dhofar Governorate. Rough seas with wave heights of 2 to 4 meters are reported along the Arabian Sea coast.

Meanwhile, the Oman Meteorological Department pointed out that meteorological station observations and satellite images showed high surface humidity in parts of North Batinah, South Batinah and Muscat governorates, which also led to a decrease in horizontal visibility.
