The handover ceremony for the new NGO president will promote the continuation of major NGO projects and the improvement of the governance system.

Members of the Rotary Club of Boroko were in Port Moresby recently to welcome the new president and bid farewell to the outgoing president.

The new chairman, Mr Trevor Burney, thanked the previous chairman for his service over the past 12 months. He said the organisation’s aim was to provide essential services to the local community.

Mr. Trevor Burney expressed his gratitude to the outgoing President and highlighted what will be done under his leadership.

“We will be carrying out water supply projects, providing desks, medical staff and wheelchairs for the injured,” said Bernie.

Mr Burney plans to improve governance systems within the organisation and continue its philanthropic work, donating wheelchairs and desks to schools in the National Capital Region and Central Province, among other projects.

Mr Burney highlighted his main plans which were to change the governance structure to register as a certificate trust and a charitable trust to comply with the legal requirements of PNG and to continue with existing projects and work towards strengthening the Rotary team in PNG.

The Rotary Club of Boroko was founded in 1964 and has 1.2 million members from 200 countries around the world.

Their work impacts the lives of people locally and internationally.
