A groom discovered his new wife of a year was actually a man who tricked him into marrying him for his money, nearly two weeks after their wedding.
The 26-year-old husband, identified only as AK in local news reports, married his girlfriend of more than a year in April, but less than two weeks after the wedding he discovered his bride was actually the groom, the New York Post reported.
According to the publication, AK met his future wife, Adinda Kanza, through Instagram last year, and the two agreed to meet in person to continue their relationship. When they met in person, Kanza always wore a niqab, a traditional face covering worn by some Muslim women that covers the wearer’s entire head and face, except for the eyes. Kanza, 26, allegedly told AK that she was a devout Muslim and had no living family.

The couple married in a low-key ceremony at AK’s home on April 12 this year, with Kanza bringing 5 grams of gold as a dowry, according to the Morning Post. But married life did not go as planned, and AK soon realized that something was wrong with his new wife. Kanza continued to wear the veil at home, despite Muslim tradition allowing the wearer to remove it when her husband is at home. She also avoided any intimacy or sex, saying she was menstruating or unwell, according to local reports.
AK became suspicious and researched his new life partner’s past and found her former home. He went to that address and was surprised to meet Kanza’s parents, despite her claims that they were dead. The family was unaware that they had a new son-in-law and they told AK that Kanza was actually their son.
