Oman cracks down on drug crimes

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has implemented strict regulations and severe penalties for the possession, use and trafficking of drugs under Omani law. The tough stance on drug crimes highlights the country’s determination to maintain social order and public health.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (PP) reiterated in an online statement that anyone who possesses narcotic or psychotropic drugs, or possesses tools used to consume such drugs, and refuses to provide the samples required for testing for such abuse, will be fined RON 1,000 and sentenced to three years in prison.

Meanwhile, according to Article 44/4 of the Law on Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, those who provide narcotics or psychotropic substances to users, or guide them to use them outside the legal scope, will face 10 years in prison and a hefty fine of 15,000 riyals.
