Gareth Southgate will say goodbye to England after another defeat at Euro 2024. This is the view of English football icons such as Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Rio Ferdinand. After the final against Spain, they made it clear on the BBC that for Southgate, this was his last game as England manager.

I doubt that will be enough for Gareth Southgate. It is a very tiring and difficult job,” said Jerry Lineker.
“I doubt this will be his last game”, declared Alan Shearer afterwards. “To go from where he took the team to where he is now, I think people will be very disappointed. Yes, we could have played more attacking football but we got to the final. However, when you get here you also have to get over the finish line. The reality is that he took us to the final three years ago and he took us to the final again this year but we didn’t win. It will be painful for him and maybe he will think it’s time to find someone else,” said the former striker.
Ferdinand believes Southgate should take the blame for the team’s poor performance. “You have to look at the talented group we have and I feel like we didn’t put these players in the best position to express that. I think the coach should be criticized for that as well. The federation is waiting for the big decision that has to be made,” said the former defender.
