Walter Pater Centeno He smiles as he thinks about all he wants to do with Herediano. He is free on the market and Florence needs to entrust their team to a coach who can guide them in the right direction to accomplish what has eluded them in the past two and a half years: win a national championship.
It wasn’t until Thursday, May 30, that Pat expressed his first impressions as the team’s coach. teamThe new Florence helmsman arrived at the Corrobici Hotel in advance accompanied by his family.
He quickly took to the main stage at 11:30 a.m., accompanied by sports manager Robert Garbanzo, who said it was time to change what they had been doing.
“I already knew him, we worked together and in my opinion the methods and the philosophy he used were very much in line with my vision of football, we tried to work with two technicians, they were Joostyn Campos and Hector Altamirano, who I want to thank. I always had a headache with Walter, he always became a topic of conversation and the process was very simple,” said Robert Garbanzo.

The first call wasn’t about any sports, but wanted to know how he felt about returning to the field. From Pat’s response, Garbanzo knew he was indeed the guy and mentioned, “It was easy to bring Pat.”
Wálter Centeno said he lives in Heredia and one of his favorite things is that it is one of the most beautiful provinces.
“They have a naturally great team, we have something in common, great players, a good institutional structure and we will have a new stadium. Imagine, there are many important things that we need to work on so that all those things that have taken years of hard work will pay off and I want to give them happiness,” said Wálter Centeno.
-What did you say to the players?
– One of the things I talked about with Robert was that I wanted to talk to them, to understand their ideas, what they want, what they need, and at the same time tell them what the direction is, what the guidelines are to follow and what the game modules are. From day one I like to say what we are going to play, what we are going to do and what we want. I have a very good communication with them. I have met with about eight people, some of whom have not yet gone to the confessional with Walter Centeno (laughs…).
– What will the playing style be like?
– It’s simple, it’s no secret to anyone that Heredia has one of the best teams in the country and when there are very good players, all that is missing is to train them well, give them confidence, give them the tools and they will put the game in place.
“When you have good players you have to adjust their physicality and give them some guidance so they can have fun in a good way and it’s up to me to please all the Herediano fans.
“A lot is at stake for all of us, on an individual, team and institutional level. It’s not every day that we are lucky enough to open a modern stadium and Heredia has done everything possible. Hopefully we can contribute our bit of sand.”
-What message do you want to convey to your fans?
– A lot of work, a lot of professionalism, a lot of perseverance and a lot of determination. Work is key, the competition lasts for six months, we have something to fight for internationally, we have something to fight for great things. What I like is my passion for football. What is going to happen is good, I like it and hopefully all expectations will be met.
– Do you have enough time?
This is the time every coach wants, this is the date of pre-season, there are no excuses, we have the ideal, we have a good team, the work is planned and you will see the evolution of the team. This is all that is missing, nothing more.
-Would you tell Roberto Garbanzo to pick Marcel Hernandez?
— Dele.
– How much did you take into account or how much did it factor into the decision knowing that Herediano could not consolidate as coach and that you could be an exception?
– I never think negatively, I believe in the abilities and talents God has given me. They know me as a person and as a coach, I have to know how to manage emotions and trust the fundamentals, the principles and the work. I am conscious and I am not afraid of anything. There are difficult moments, good moments, controversies, everything. And those who have never felt the adrenaline, it’s because they have never played. Through criticism, we learn to grow.
-How excited are you to give Herediano 30 stars?
-There is still a long way to go, we have to form a team, we all have to unite, we have to get important results, score goals, be consistent, have regularity. There are 30, but that’s it.
– Is Johan Venegas suitable?
– Out of respect, it has not come up yet. Out of respect for the players who are still here, I can’t say anything. If it happens, welcome. It’s up to the boss, the boss rules, I command what they give me.
– Will the style change?
– The idea of the game is Herediano’s. The players decide how good the coach is. It’s my turn to implement things with them, I believe in their abilities, instill in them something I like and communicate, what works and what doesn’t. The only way is to win.
“Many times we’ll win, other times we’ll draw, and that’s it. We have a lot of responsibility, they also have responsibility for the previous eliminations, and there’s commitment. When they make commitments, the coach just provides details. In Costa Rican football, just doing something can lead to great things.”
-How to remove Saprisa’s hegemony?
– For two and a half years, this is the pressure we face. Our path is to win, to try to make them win, and we all start from scratch. The King is dead, long live the King. No matter who is the champion, we will fight to get there.
– The former Saprissa technician gave Herediano the title. Do you feel any pressure because now people expect the same from you?
– All the coaches in this competition are under pressure, I am one of them, because this is Costa Rican football. It is nothing new, there is always one side that wins and we hope it is Herediano.
—Jostin Campos says some people come with a label. How will you try to remove the Saprisa label?
– I have been retired for 13 years and as a footballer everything is in the past. I am grateful that I have always been a professional. Now my profession is technical director and I am a professional thanks to my bosses, those who opened the doors of work for me, recognized my professionalism and have something to pay and feed my family.
“They gave me an opportunity that many people didn’t give me. I trusted Roberto Garbanzo and Jafite Soto because I didn’t see them very often, but we would meet very often, and Orlando Moreira. This is football. From here to there, we are in different times than before and we have to adapt to the current situation.”
