“Equip yourself, then die” – Boko warns

Botswana National Front (BNF) Chairman Duma Boko has warned that anyone who tries to manipulate the upcoming elections will pay with their lives.

He made the remarks while addressing the annual conference of Bangladesh Nationalist League held at Ledumang Senior Secondary School this afternoon. Boko, who is also the chairman of Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), said they will not let what happened in the past elections happen again.

He warned: “Some of the things that happened in the last election will not happen again in this October’s election.”

“In the coming elections, you will work together with Madibela Trope to protect the votes. We can do this only at the cost of our lives. Whoever tries to manipulate or rig the elections will pay with his life.”

“We have no doubt about it. Whoever manipulates the election in the upcoming election will know clearly that they are sacrificing their lives by doing so. The upcoming election must be conducted in a fair manner. That is what we want.”

The BNF and UDC president said they are training more Madibelatlhopho agents ahead of the elections in order to prevent electoral fraud. He said the training of agents will be conducted nationwide.

He said one of the things that would no longer happen was the involvement of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) in elections. “The 2019 elections were conducted by the DIS,” he claimed.

“Because the Election Act states that the names of the election officials should be published in the government gazette. But the fact is that on the election day, it was the DIS impostors who came to conduct the election, not those whose names were published in the government gazette.”

He said this would not happen again. “All presiding officers will come to the polling station with their Omang (national identity card). You have to bring a copy of the government gazette where their names are published. Before the election, we will cross-check whether the presiding officer is the one whose name appears in the government gazette.”

On the other hand, Boko said that in the upcoming elections, the only voters’ roll that can be used will be the certified one. He claimed that what happened in the last election where the voters’ roll provided by the party election monitors was not allowed into the polling stations and a different roll was issued will not happen again.
